July 3 (Mon) Old West Independence Day in Columbia

Event Date:
Monday, July 3, 2017 - 8:30am to Tuesday, July 4, 2017 - 5:30pm

Happy birthday USA! Join FOG members as we celebrate independence day themed on the 'Old West'. Columbia hosts a special festival themed on their pioneer past and fills the day with festivities. We fly in on July 3, camp overnight at the airport, then walk over to the event the following morning. This is a whole day event that kicks off at 11:00am with black powder musket salutes.

If you haven’t experienced 4th of July in Columbia, you’re in for a treat.  The town of Columbia pulls out all the stops each year to celebrate Independence Day.  The festivities start at noon with a parade up Main Street, a tradition that dates all the way back to 1852.  You won’t believe the costumes and throwbacks to old-time Americana! After the parade, dance in the street to a brass & reed band, indulge in a tri-tip BBQ dinner, or participate in one of the contests like greased pole climbing, nail pounding, or pie eating.

Camp under your wings at Columbia Airport (K022)! Important notice from the Airport: no fires, coal, or open heat sources allowed for camping.  Open heat sources are only allowed in the approved campfire rings at one of the improved camp spots or in the BBQ grills provided in the campground.  If you choose to camp on the field you must park your aircraft no less than 150 feet from the runways centerline.  There should be some orange cones up delineating between no parking and parking areas.  Regardless of camping under your wings or in the campground itself, the fee is $10.00 per night

You can plan to arrive 4:00pm Monday 3rd to set up your campsite in the daylight, or 10:00am Tuesday 4th. The first event is at 11:00am Tuesday so plan accordingly.

Plan to arrive by 10:00am to set up your camp site in the daylight, then spend the day enjoying the festivities around Main Street. There are a couple of bars and restaurants that stay open for dinner and have live music.
