March 21 (Wed) 7:00pm Airworthiness: What Is It and How Does the FAA Enforce It?

The FAA and NTSB define "airworthiness" differently. This difference is critical in enforcement cases involving pilots and mechanics. The word is not even defined in FAR Part 1 because of the differences. The FAA and NTSB say the definition is "situational". FAR 91.7 requires pilots to assure the aircraft they intend to operate is "airworthy". FAR Part 43.15 requires mechanics to assure that "all airworthiness requirements have been met" when inspecting aircraft. Why are these requirements different? Attend this seminar and find out.

Peter Friedman has been in the Aviation Industry since 1965. In 2016 the FAA presented him with the Charles Taylor 50-Year Master Mechanic Award.  His experience includes FAA-PMA parts manufacturing, maintenance for both commercial and military aircraft, 135 flight operations, flight instruction, and Expert Witness in aviation litigation. He is an A&P, IA, CFI-I, and has been a DAR and DMIR for the FAA. He has conducted IA Renewal Seminars on the maintenance FARs since 1990, and has the only FAA-accepted Internet-based IA Renewal Course on the maintenance FARs with He also is an ASQ Certified Quality Auditor, Certified Quality Inspector, and Certified Quality Technician.
